You can expect the following when you visit our offices:
Our complete audiometric evaluation is thorough and standardized between our offices. Your audiologist will first examine your ears with an otoscope or video otoscope to determine if there is any excessive earwax (cerumen), or any other problem that may require medical intervention. We will remove any excess cerumen and test your hearing using tones first, then evaluate how well you understand speech (speech recognition ability) and how well you understand speech in the presence of background noise (Quick SIN - Speech in Noise Test). These tests allow us to diagnose the type and degree of hearing loss you have. You will be given a detailed description of your hearing loss and it's affect on your communication abilities.
Hearing Aid Evaluation
If deemed necessary, your audiologist will discuss hearing aids and your prognosis with amplification. We will thoroughly discuss all of your options regarding hearing aids. We will discuss the different styles and technology offered in hearing aids today and will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of each. We will administer a lifestyle questionnaire to help us determine which type of technology may best suit your unique listening needs. Remember, every hearing loss is different, and every individual has different listening needs. A hearing aid that works for one patient may not be the most appropriate for another. We will take your unique circumstances into consideration when prescribing hearing instruments. An earmold impression of your ears may be taken at this point to have the instruments fabricated for custom orders.
Hearing Aid Demonstration
If desired, you will have the opportunity to experience the latest technology in the office. Demonstration hearing aids will be programmed to match your hearing loss so that you may listen to them both in our quiet offices and with background noises.
Hearing Aid Dispense and Orientation
At this session, the hearing instruments are programmed and verified for comfort and audibility, using state of the art computers. Speech mapping is used by placing a small probe microphone near the eardrum to measure how much power is reaching your eardrum at different frequencies. This allows the audiologist to analyze and make adjustments to the programming of your hearing instruments while you are wearing them, to achieve the maximum benefit for the patient. You will then be given thorough instructions on hearing aid use and care. Your sixty day trial period begins today.
